Dr. Lamonte Tyler

Dr. Lamonte Tyler has trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Muay Thai, kickboxing, and boxing since February 21, 2000. He then started training in Judo on January 4, 2004. He has a 3rd degree Black Belt in BJJ, a 4th in Judo, 2nd in Japanese Jujitsu, and a 1st in Hapkido. He’s competed in a combined total of over 400 matches in both BJJ and Judo. In 2003, Dr. Tyler was ranked #1 in the nation for males over 30 in both GI and No-GI by MMA.tv. He holds a MMA record of 8-1. On July 21, 2012, Dr. Tyler was inducted into the US Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

Dr. Tyler is originally from Baltimore, MD. He’s a combat veteran completing tours during Operation Desert Storm and Somalia. He has a total of nine college degrees. He is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Mu Beta Phi Military Fraternity, Inc., and a Mason. He is a freelance photographer. Dr. Tyler is an Adjunct Professor for a local community college, and during the daytime, he is a Senior Cyber Instructional Content Developer. Dr. Tyler owns Royce Gracie Academy of Randallstown, located in Randallstown, MD, and teaches at two other schools, including Gracie Randallstown Jiu-Jitsu in Hillandale.
